What does LOVE TENNIS do?
LOVE TENNIS offers therapeutic tennis lessons to children and adults with special needs. This includes those with physical or mental challenges, chronic illnesses and those with behavioral or emotional problems.LOVE TENNIS uses the sport of tennis to enhance the quality of life of these individuals by providing a rewarding recreational and social outlet while providing a unique therapeutic component supervised by healthcare professionals.
By participating in the LOVE TENNIS program, participants may gain improved physical fitness, balance and coordination, self-confidence, self-esteem and discipline, as well as have a way to develop concentration while pursuing a goal.
Therapeutic instruction in the LOVE TENNIS program entails the teaching of tennis skills to the special needs athletes while emphasizing identified strengths and remediating and/or compensating for each individual's unique physical, psychological and/or cognitive issues.
How LOVE TENNIS Operates
The program, based in Nashville, Tennessee, is carried out through a cooperative partnership of several professional therapists, one professional tennis instructor, and generous donations of volunteer time, equipment and facilities, as well as donations from individuals and organizations.Lessons are offered on a fee-based and scholarship funded basis, dependent upon the level of need. No special needs athlete who wishes to particpate in LOVE TENNIS is turned away because of financial need.
